This one-storey, 93,000 sq. ft. library, situated in the Badlands of North Dakota, is a hybrid construction of steel and mass timber, using 635 m3 of CLT and 1,103 m3 of glulam. The library honours not only the 26th president of the United States himself but also his conservationism. As president, Roosevelt established 150 national forests, 51 bird reserves, and four national game preserves. The sprawling structure’s sloping roof, which was installed in October 2024, will lead visitors and library users to the top to experience beautiful views of Theodore Roosevelt National Park during the day and the star-studded sky at night. Temporary enclosures have now been set up to allow construction crews to work on the structure’s interior throughout the winter. The library will open to the public in the summer of 2026.

In July 2024, the B.C. government committed to fund $151.7 million for student housing at Camosun College’s Lansdowne Campus. The College will contribute an additional $3 million, for a total project cost of $154.7 million. According to a College press release, the six-storey building will be constructed using mass timber and will have more than 400 student beds (dormitory-style, single suite, and four-bedroom apartment-style) in addition to reflection rooms, universal washrooms, and communal kitchens. The College is currently in the process of choosing a main consultant to lead the design phase; it anticipates the consultant will be in place in 2025. Project completion is expected for fall 2027.

The Membertou First Nation’s first mass timber commercial building, with an estimated total cost of almost $30 million, is part of the community’s new 35-acre retail and service district, called the Seventh Exchange. Erected in just four months, the five-storey commercial building is approximately 95,000 sq. ft. and comprises a glulam frame and CLT floor/roof slabs. The exterior walls are metal studs, and the insulation is rock wool and hemp batt. While the first tenant is expected to be in place by summer 2025, work on the interior will continue, with total completion expected in the fall of 2026.

With the last timber beam of the roof of the new Sydney Fish Market now installed, retailers and consumers can look forward to the market opening in 2025. The project closed for the holiday season, but work will restart with the installation of ancillary fixings, gutters, and remaining roof cassettes in early January. The 230-metre-long floating roof canopy spans an area of two hectares (almost the length of three football fields) and weighs over 800,000 kilograms in total. The market itself has roughly 12,000 m2 of retail space and more than 6,000 m2 of new public open space.
