Mass Timber Operations Expanding in BC

Kalesnikoff, a family-owned company based in British Columbia’s West Kootenay region, is making a significant investment to expand its mass timber production. To date, the company has completed over 300 projects with products manufactured at the most advanced, vertically-integrated, multi-species mass timber facility in North America. These projects span a wide range of types and include such groundbreaking buildings as The Hive in Vancouver, BC, a ten-story tall wood mass timber office building; Timberview VIII, an affordable housing project in Portland, Oregon; and North Lake Commons, a mass timber life sciences lab and commercial office building in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood.

The use of mass timber is growing, in large part due to its efficiency of installation on site. Adoption is further encouraged by evolving building codes. In B.C., the Building Code has expanded the allowable use of mass timber in taller and more complex structures, such as schools, housing, and commercial buildings, increasing the applications for mass timber products.

To meet the robust and rising demand for prefabricated structures, Kalesnikoff has invested in a 100,000-square-foot facility, enhancing its offerings with light-frame wall packages, expanded glulam fabrication, and full volumetric modular units. The new facility itself is constructed using mass timber products, demonstrating the material’s versatility and suitability for use in industrial buildings.

Kalesnikoff’s expansion reinforces the company’s commitment to providing innovative building solutions using renewable resources.
