Natural Resources Canada has launched an Off-Site Construction Challenge under the Energy Innovation Program — a national call to accelerate innovation in energy-efficient resilient multi-unit housing using off-site construction methods.

The Challenge is designed to advance faster delivery of quality housing while improving affordability and energy performance. It includes support for concept design and detailed planning, with selected finalists eligible for grant funding, and the potential for larger contribution funding to bring a project to construction.

The Challenge comprises two phases, each providing funding to successful applicants:

Phase 1: An opportunity to receive grants of up to $180,000, open to all eligible applicants

Phase 2: An opportunity to receive a contribution of up to $10 million, open to finalists selected from Phase 1

For network members working in wood-based and prefabricated systems, this represents a strategic opportunity to showcase innovative off-site design solutions that leverage timber and related manufacturing strengths for the rapid delivery of housing that is affordable, resilient, and environmentally sustainable.
